We’re right behind you Tim

In the next month or two, Tim Taylor a 28 year old Mt Maunganui local kayaker, writer and kayak fishing guide will attempt to break the 24 hr Open Ocean Male Sea Kayak record.
Tim’s plan is to kayak from Omaha Beach in Auckland to Tauranga - a distance of 220kms. If he can cover this distance in 24 hours he will beat the current record of 194kms set in 1986 by an American kayaker. He is hoping a speed of 9.6kmph should do it.
“It’s more of a straight run if you go across the Gulf and down the Bay of Plenty, it’s a bit easier with the forecasts,” says Tim. “It’s a nice stretch and Auckland-Tauranga happened to be about the right length; and it’s quite cool to be able to paddle from Auckland to Tauranga as well.”
When Tim popped in to Cubro to ask advice on which pressure cushion to use, we were only too happy to help. To hear that he was setting another goal for himself was inspiring and exciting for the Bay of Plenty.
This isn’t the first time we’ve been behind him however. We sponsored him with another cushion during his attempt to paddle around New Zealand on a solo voyage three years ago. He set out from the Wairoa River for East Cape on 27 November 2010, and returned from Tairua on 28 February 2012.
So what did we suggest? What will literally be behind Tim Taylor on every kilometre of his journey? As Tim will be prone to pressure injuries to the ischium (seat bones) and coccyx with side to side rolling while paddling, the embossed design of our Neo-Gel COMFY cushion will help dissipate Tim’s body heat and provide outstanding pressure relief and comfort.
Good luck Tim. May you have a strong tail wind and calm seas.
