The Moving and Handling People Guidelines¹ states that “injuries to healthcare staff and their associated costs are substantial in New Zealand... carers and health assistants have the highest risk of injuries, as their jobs require frequent client transferring and repositioning… carers performing high rates of client moving and handling each day are much more likely to report back pain.” Repositioning and transferring clients are the most physically demanding of tasks.
