Earlier this month we teamed up with Rebecca Washbourn from On-the-Go Physio to a host a webinar where we discussed safe moving and handling best practices to help keep yourself safe at work.
We learned some valuable tips from Rebecca, and we have summarised some key learnings for you below. We encourage you to watch our webinar on demand to hear more in detail.
Ultimately, we need to take care of ourselves so we can look after others. If we’re performing tasks that are causing pain or discomfort, then we’re not able to do our jobs to the best of our ability
Good moving and handling decisions include: only doing tasks that you feel confident with; that you’ve had training in; allowing sufficient time to perform the task; and having the confidence to make the right call
Maintaining comfortable posture and movement throughout the day. We need to have realistic expectations of our body, that will last our careers
Equipment can help to lighten your load. Talk to your manager or the moving and handling adviser on techniques or solutions to help keep safe
