Considered. Timeless. Empathetic.
These three words capture the styling and design philosophy of Clea Chambers, the creative force behind Cubro's design sector. With years of hands-on experience in aged care interiors and procurement, Clea leads with a thoughtful, human-centred approach that blends empathy, practical insight, and aesthetic vision.
At Cubro, every environment is created with purpose. From premium suites and shared living areas to staff rooms and lounges, each detail is designed to support the wellbeing of residents and the people who care for them. Soft finishes, ergonomic fittings, intuitive layouts, and adaptable furnishings are all part of a carefully considered process that reflects a deep understanding of aged care settings.
Clea’s journey into interior design began early. Even as a child, she would ask for new décor for her bedroom instead of toys. This early interest developed into a lasting passion for the way spaces influence how we feel and connect with others. “I have always been fascinated by the way a space can shape your mood, your experience and your connection with the environment and the people around you,” she says. “Creating functional and beautiful spaces that improve everyday life has always been my motivation.”
Her focus on aged care design was shaped by seven years working exclusively in the sector. During this time, she saw firsthand how the physical environment could uplift or challenge the quality of life for older people. This experience instilled a drive to create spaces and furniture that are not only practical but also supportive and respectful. “It became clear to me that I wanted to contribute in a meaningful way by crafting environments and furniture that support and uplift both residents and care staff.”
Among her proudest achievements is the development of the Cubro furniture range. This range is the result of years spent listening, learning, and understanding what truly works in aged care environments. “Seeing it come to life, knowing it has been designed to meet the needs of real people in real settings, is incredibly fulfilling.”
One of the design principles Clea often returns to is the inclusion of nostalgic and familiar items in shared spaces. These thoughtful details can spark memories and provide a sense of comfort and belonging. “It is a reminder that good design is not just about how things look. It is about how they make people feel.”
She especially enjoys the concept phase of a project. This is the time when ideas begin to form, and there is space to explore different directions. She also finds great satisfaction in seeing a completed space full of life and purpose. That, she says, is when a design’s value is truly realised.
Clea’s creativity is shaped by the world around her. She draws inspiration from nature and the textures of everyday life, from the tones of autumn trees against a stormy sky to the contrast between old cobblestones and modern glass. Her personal style is eclectic, enriched by treasures gathered during her travels, each piece adding depth and story to her perspective.
Her work is a reminder that good design is not just about form or function. It is about understanding people. Through her thoughtful approach, she continues to shape aged care environments that feel welcoming, supportive, and deeply human.
